Two Bucks Anniversaire!

February 19, 2009

The very popular quarterly event from Two Bucks til’ Wednesday crew will be celebrating their second anniversary next Saturday, February 28 with another round of cheap vintage dresses, shirts, skirts, shoes and bags. This time round however, the group are asking for donations of all your riff-raff you no longer want but which you never end up getting rid of. They will be setting up places outside the entrance for you to drop off your unwanted clothes and accessories.

Also new on the agenda was a change-up for the Two Bucks photo shoot we come to crave, with the girls calling on their supporters and shoppers to become their models in celebration for all the support they’ve recieved.

Here we show a few of the photos from the shoot:

No one left this place looking like they did when they came in. It was sweaty and the power of Alice’s performance had everyone still talking or dreaming about the gig long into their sleep.

Grave Diggers and Chandeliers: Fashion Showcase from Below

January 27, 2009

“We will create a world of chaos, confusion, clashing and contradiction to the common age however to what the underworld finds what is frightfully normal.”

pic1The concept is a showcase of collective fashion work. The idea is the featured garments for particular sects in an underworld society. A society who are made up of social delinquents and outcasts, sent to another dimension who believe that this society have gone to the brink of oblivion – an oblivion where society cannot accept the bizarre.

A fashion exhibition basically denouncing consumer cool and declaring hate for those who are dedicated to producing conformity.

Presenting ‘Grave Diggers and Chandeliers,’ a fashion showcase from three creative heads from the murky fashion department of ECU Mount Lawley, Meghan Hosie, Grace Macri and Jessica Carlucci. Thinking as you do over the holidays to show everyone what they get up to when they cross the lawns of the university entrance, the three ladies came up with the idea to organise an exhibition where the aim is to show people what goes on in “our heads fashion wise.”

The concept – the extravagant underworld of those who see beyond society’s trends. “It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about what you are wearing as long as you are happy with it, which is what we want to achieve. We don’t like boring ready-to-wear clothing and want to make people think about what they are seeing,” describes Meghan.

“As well as to let people know what we are doing, who we are and that Perth fashion isn’t all boring. That fashion is about setting yourself apart from everyone and we wanted the clothing to be items that cause chaos and confusion and questioning.”
‘Grave Diggers and Chandeliers,’ features over two nights, Thursday, 29th January and Friday, 30th January from 7:00pm at Devilles Pad in East Perth. Come ready to put aside preconceived notions of what fashion means.

The exhibition which will reside at Keith + Lottie for two weeks will showcase the breadth of illustrations the artist has produced from years of picking up her tools and creating whimsical, fancy, and breathtaking pieces with a dash of feminine softness and gentleness.

Street Muse talks to Megan about her love of drawing and how she got started, just head to the culture page for more.
